When I first arrived at Departamento en Praga, I’ll admit I was curious about the name — it’s actually located in Mexico City’s Roma Norte neighborhood, not Prague. But honestly, there’s something charmingly European about this four-star property that makes the name work. The building sits on a quiet residential street that feels worlds away from the city’s chaos, yet you’re still right in the heart of one of Mexico City’s most vibrant areas. What immediately struck me was how the place manages to feel both intimate and polished — it’s clearly designed for travelers who want something more personal than a big chain hotel.

Location & Neighborhood

The Roma Norte location is absolutely perfect, and I mean that. You’re walking distance from some of the city’s best cafes, galleries, and restaurants — I found myself strolling to Mercado Medellín for fresh ingredients and discovering tiny mezcal bars I never would have found otherwise. The tree-lined streets here have this relaxed, almost bohemian vibe that couples seem to love (and the ratings back that up). What’s really practical is the free private parking on-site — trust me, if you’re driving in Mexico City, this is worth its weight in gold. I’ve stayed in other parts of the city where finding parking was a nightmare.

The Space

The apartment-style setup gives you so much more room to breathe than a typical hotel room. There’s a proper kitchen where you can actually cook if you want to — something I appreciated after a few days of heavy Mexican meals. The living area feels genuinely homey, with local artwork and comfortable furniture that doesn’t look like it came from a hotel catalog. The bedroom is spacious enough that you’re not tripping over your luggage, and the bathroom has good water pressure (always a concern when traveling). Everything feels clean and well-maintained, but not sterile — there’s personality here.

The Experience

What sets this place apart is how it lets you live like a local rather than just passing through. I found myself buying groceries at the corner market and making coffee in the morning instead of rushing out to find breakfast. The neighborhood becomes part of your routine — you’ll have a favorite taco stand within two days, guaranteed. The staff clearly knows the area well and can point you toward things that aren’t in guidebooks. It’s the kind of place where you actually unpack your suitcase instead of living out of it.

Why Guests Love It

The 9.0 rating and perfect location score aren’t accidents — this place just works for people who want to experience Mexico City rather than just see it.   There wasn’t anything we didn’t like. The apartment was comfortable. The only thing I’d have liked, was a face cloth to wash my face.

  You can tell the host has a great deal of love for this property because everything is exceptionally maintained and well appointed. We sat around the kitchen table each with our laptops and comfortably sat in the living area to relax. It was the little things from the selection of sconces, plenty of fresh linens and towels, to the powerful water heater. The guarded lobby opens from a (relatively) quiet neighborhood . We were able to walk to many locations.
  A note for my amputee buds-if you’re a bathtub kind of person like me then you may be hard-pressed to find it in a rental. Still, I took a chance and was pleasantry surprised at how safe I get standing in one leg to shower. The floors are a porous material so it’s not slick. The stall walls are narrow so you can use them for support if needed. Not so narrow that my 6ft dad was uncomfortable though. Just watch out for a couple of marble stairs in the lobby and you’ll be fine!

  La limpieza es muy buena, la ubicación excelente, el departamento es amplio. Me gustó mucho. Los policías de la entrada muy amables, también la anfitriona. Muy recomendable!
  
  What could be improved: Me hubiera gustado que por lo menos hubiera una botella de agua, en casi todos los Airbnb o departamentos que he rentando tienen café, té y agua pero aquí no había nada de eso.
