GUANAJUATO By Mr W Overview
First Impressions
Walking into GUANAJUATO By Mr W, you immediately get that boutique hotel vibe — it’s not trying too hard, but there’s definitely thought behind every detail. The lobby has this modern Mexican aesthetic that feels authentic rather than touristy, which honestly surprised me given how many hotels in Mexico City lean into clichés. This four-star property sits right in the Roma Norte neighborhood, and I mean right in the heart of it — you can hear the energy of the street life even from the lobby.
The Neighborhood Scene
Here’s what I love about the location on Guanajuato street — you’re basically surrounded by some of the city’s best cafés and galleries without being stuck in the overly polished Polanco bubble. Roma Norte has this perfect mix of locals and visitors, so you get authentic taquerias next to trendy mezcal bars. The tree-lined streets make for great morning walks, and you know what, couples really do seem to gravitate toward this area. I noticed it during my stay, and apparently the hotel’s reputation backs that up — there’s something romantic about those cobblestone side streets.
The Room Experience
My room had floor-to-ceiling windows that actually opened (a rarity in many modern hotels), letting in both light and the sounds of the neighborhood. The design strikes this nice balance between contemporary comfort and local character — think clean lines with pops of traditional Mexican textiles. The bathroom was spacious enough that I didn’t feel cramped, and the bed was genuinely comfortable. What I appreciated most was the attention to lighting — there were enough options that I could actually read without squinting or flooding the space with harsh overhead lights.
Daily Rhythms
Mornings here have a nice flow to them. The hotel’s restaurant serves breakfast that goes beyond the typical continental spread — they actually make decent chilaquiles, which tells you the kitchen knows what it’s doing. I found myself lingering over coffee longer than usual, partly because the dining area has these great windows facing the street. You can watch the neighborhood wake up while planning your day, and there’s something satisfying about that rhythm. The staff seems to understand that not everyone wants to rush through breakfast.
Why Guests Love It
What makes this place work is how it feels integrated into the neighborhood rather than separate from it. You’re not staying in a hotel that happens to be in Mexico City — you’re staying in Roma Norte, and the hotel enhances that experience rather than isolating you from it. The recent guest ratings reflect this too, especially for location. I get why couples rate it so highly; there’s an intimacy to the scale and setting that larger hotels can’t match. Plus, you can walk to Mercado Medellín for amazing produce and street food, or catch a film at the nearby art house cinema. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re living in the city for a few days rather than just visiting it.
Apartments in Mexico suit digital nomads craving leafy courtyards, tamal vendors, and reliable fiber internet.

I liked the location and the superfriendly doorman. Also the rooms were spacious.
What could be improved: The apartment only had 2 glasses in total, which is by far not enough. I had to buy my own wine glass. Also, on Fridays and Saturdays there was a lot of noise from some sort of bar next to our bedroom. It woke me up.William from France – 30 January 2025 (8/10)
Tout était parfait ! L'appartement est spacieux, confortable et propre. L'hôte est très réactive et aux petits soins.

Ahh where to begin… We had an amazing experience staying at this apartment! The space is absolutely stunning—spacious, impeccably clean, and filled with brand-new, modern furniture and big beds.
The host was also great —so friendly, welcoming, and always available to answer any questions or offer recommendations about the city. They went above and beyond to ensure we have the best stay possible. Plus they let us stay the last day until 6pm – so nice!
The apartment’s location is also ideal, with easy access to great restaurants and cafes.
I highly recommend this place and would stay here again on my next visit to CDMX. Thanks!
What could be improved: Nothing!
