Hotel Harare Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Hotel Harare, you immediately get that feeling of stumbling onto something good that most tourists miss. This three-star spot on Calzada de Tlalpan doesn’t try to be flashy — it just does the basics really well. The lobby has this clean, understated vibe that honestly feels more authentic than some of the bigger chain hotels I’ve stayed at in Mexico City. You know what struck me most? The staff actually seemed happy to see guests, not just going through the motions.
The Location Sweet Spot
Here’s the thing about staying in Colonia Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez — you’re close enough to everything that matters but far enough from the tourist chaos to actually breathe. I mean, you can hop on the metro and be in Centro Histórico in about 20 minutes, but when you come back at night, it’s this quiet residential area where locals are just living their lives. There’s a reason couples rate this location so highly (I heard it’s like 8.9 out of 10) — it feels like you’re experiencing real Mexico City, not just the postcard version.
Your Room and Comfort
The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from a solid three-star — clean, comfortable bed, decent-sized bathroom, and everything worked properly. Nothing fancy, but honestly, that’s not what you’re paying for here. The air conditioning actually kept up with Mexico City’s heat, which isn’t always a given at this price point. What I really appreciated was how quiet it was at night — thick enough walls that you’re not hearing every conversation in the hallway.
Practical Perks That Matter
You know what’s actually a big deal? Free parking right at the hotel. If you’re renting a car to explore beyond the city (maybe hitting up Teotihuacán or Xochimilco), this saves you a ton of hassle and money. Most places in Mexico City either don’t have parking or charge you an arm and a leg for it. The front desk folks were super helpful with directions too — they actually drew me a little map to the nearest good taco place instead of just pointing vaguely down the street.
Why Guests Love It
Look, Hotel Harare isn’t going to blow your mind with amenities or Instagram-worthy design. But sometimes you just want a place that gets the fundamentals right without breaking the bank. The location gives you that perfect balance of accessibility and authenticity, the rooms are clean and comfortable, and the staff treats you like a person, not a credit card. For couples especially, there’s something nice about having this quiet base to return to after long days of exploring the city. It’s the kind of place where you sleep well, start your day refreshed, and don’t spend half your travel budget just on accommodation.

Spacious room, very comfortable bed, a bottle of water. Only the water pressure in the shower could have been stronger, but as everything else was perfect, that's not a big deal. Recommended!

Location: the metro train station is right in front of hotel. If you can get a CDMX metro card, then 5 peso can take you to anywhere.
WIFI: very good.
Staff: very professional and nice.
What could be improved: No breakfast. I do not see an inside bar either. You have to go somewhere else to have fun.Luke from United States – 30 December 2024 (8/10)
The room was clean, the staff were very kind and helpful. The hotel was next to a subway station which could take me to pretty much everywhere in the city. Besides the subway, there's a lot of traffic around the site, but the room is surprisingly quiet. It was very comfortable to rest there. There were also many convenience stores and food stand around here. I didn't have any problem finding delicious local food.
