MyPlace Zocalo Overview
First Impressions
Walking into MyPlace Zocalo feels like discovering one of those hidden gems that locals don’t want tourists to know about. This four-star boutique property sits right in the heart of historic Mexico City, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. The lobby has this understated elegance — not flashy, but you can tell someone put real thought into the design. There’s something refreshing about a hotel that doesn’t try too hard to impress you with marble everything.
The Zocalo Advantage
You know what’s brilliant about staying here? You’re literally steps away from the Zocalo — Mexico City’s massive main square where all the action happens. I mean, you can watch the flag ceremony from some of the upper floors, and the Cathedral is right there when you step outside. But here’s the thing most people don’t realize — being this close to the historic center means you’re also walking distance to some incredible street food and those tiny cantinas that have been serving locals for decades. The couples who stay here seem to get it — they rated the location 8.8, and I totally understand why.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was compact but smartly designed, which is exactly what you want in this part of the city. Clean lines, comfortable bed, and — this matters more than you’d think — really good blackout curtains since the area can get lively at night. The bathroom was modern without being sterile, and the water pressure was actually impressive for a historic building. What I appreciated most was the attention to soundproofing; despite being in such a central location, I slept surprisingly well.
Neighborhood Insights
Here’s something you should know about this area — it transforms completely depending on the time of day. Mornings are calm and perfect for exploring the nearby museums (the Templo Mayor is a five-minute walk), while evenings bring street performers and that electric energy Mexico City is famous for. The hotel staff actually knows the neighborhood well, which isn’t always the case. They pointed me toward a fantastic restaurant tucked away on a side street that I never would have found otherwise. Plus, there’s secure parking nearby if you’re brave enough to drive in the city center.
Why Guests Love It
With a 9.2 rating, MyPlace Zocalo clearly does something right, and I think it comes down to authenticity. This isn’t trying to be a resort — it’s a well-run hotel that embraces its location instead of fighting against it. Recent guests rated the location 9.3, which honestly makes perfect sense when you experience how connected you feel to the real Mexico City from here. You’re not stuck in some tourist bubble; you’re actually in the city, surrounded by centuries of history and culture. For travelers who want to feel like they’re discovering something genuine rather than just checking boxes, this place delivers.

Reviews of MyPlace Zocalo
Matarrita from Costa Rica – 21 April 2025 (8/10)
Kp from United Kingdom – 21 March 2025 (8/10)
The location was very near (3 minute walk) to the Zocalo. It was on a very busy street but the apartment itself was quiet being away from the main street. It was nice to have a sitting room and basic cooking facilities and these worked well. The bed was comfortable and when we needed help it was provided very promptly.
The apartment had a washer dryer and this was handy as we were in the middle of a three week trip.
The 24 hour reception and controlled door access made us feel very safe.
Definitely do a bus tour (from the Zocalo) to get your bearings and decide where in the city you want to spend time.
What could be improved: It would have been helpful to have some information about how the equipment worked. We had difficulty with the TV, washing machine and oven. Support was prompt but some emailed instructions would have been better.Felipe from United States – 15 December 2024 (10/10)

Bed was very comfortable, unit was spacious and comfortable. Great location and we enjoyed the terraza a few times.
What could be improved: Only 1 coffee pod for 1 cup of coffee (picture shows basketful of pods). 2 rolls of toilet paper for a 5 day stay. Only 2 Bath towels, 2 hand towels of which we had to use one to put on bathroom floor, no bath rug and no kitchen towel.Phil from United States – 2 March 2023 (10/10)
We’ve stayed at numerous Mexico City hotels and B&Bs, and always stay in the Centro Historico. This area has most of the sights, and a very Mexican atmosphere. This apartment is now our new favorite place, and would give them SIX STARS if I could! It was small but well designed, and the perfect size for the two of us. It was well-designed, decorated, and furnished. The kitchen was stocked with cookware and serving ware to be able to prepare our own meals. The apartment was absolutely immaculate. WE LOVED THE LOCATION, and in spite of the central location, it was quiet. The street in front is pedestrianized and the area felt very safe. Although some maps show this as being in Tepito, it’s definitely not. Check-in was easy and flawless; there’s a staffperson on duty 24/7.

Well located apartment. Close to everything and very quiet at night. The host was awesome, the room was ready at 3:15pm which was not a big deal as we booked it on the same day a few hours before we arrived, and the host sent us a bottle of wine for the late check in, which i thought was very thoughtful of them. The apartment was clean, the bed was comfortable, an overall great experience.

close to the main plaza and metro station.
What could be improved: a bit hard to find, phone kept giving busy tone, street sign plate is missing, walked around for more than an hr with suitcases even though so close to it, the street where the sign is, there is also N 31 which is a totally locked place, we were stressed, problem with their phone which gives busy signal. shower stall is small, hard to get in and the stall can be cleaned some bleach to kill the mold, you can smell it with water on.Leslie from United Kingdom – 30 September 2022 (8/10)
