Continental Mexicano Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Continental Mexicano feels like stepping back in time — but in the best possible way. This three-star hotel sits right in the heart of Mexico City’s Centro Histórico, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. The building has that classic colonial charm you’d expect from this neighborhood, with high ceilings and traditional tiles that immediately tell you you’re somewhere with real history. The property maintains its authentic character while offering modern comforts for today’s travelers.
The Perfect Historic Location
You know what I love about staying here? You’re literally surrounded by everything that makes Mexico City incredible. The Zócalo is just a few blocks away — you can actually walk to the main cathedral and all those amazing historic buildings without breaking a sweat. Plus, there’s something magical about wandering these cobblestone streets in the early morning before the crowds arrive. The restaurant scene around here is fantastic too, from tiny family-run taquerías to more upscale spots serving modern Mexican cuisine. Every corner reveals another layer of the city’s rich cultural heritage.
The Room Experience
My room was simple but comfortable — exactly what you’d expect from a well-run three-star property. The beds are decent and the bathrooms are clean with good water pressure, which honestly matters more than fancy fixtures when you’re exploring the city all day. What really struck me was how quiet it gets at night, considering you’re in the middle of such a bustling area. The air conditioning works well too, which you’ll definitely appreciate during Mexico City’s warmer months. Each room is thoughtfully designed to provide a peaceful retreat after a day of sightseeing.
Service and Atmosphere
The staff here actually knows the neighborhood — and I don’t just mean they can point you toward tourist spots. They gave me recommendations for places I never would have found on my own, like this incredible little café tucked away on a side street where locals go for breakfast. The front desk folks speak good English, but they’re also patient if you want to practice your Spanish. There’s something refreshingly unpretentious about the whole place; it feels authentic without trying too hard to be boutique-y. The team genuinely cares about making your stay memorable.
Why Guests Love It
Look, Continental Mexicano isn’t trying to be something it’s not — it’s a solid, well-located hotel that gives you exactly what you need for exploring Mexico City’s historic center. Couples seem to really appreciate the romantic vibe of the neighborhood, and it’s quite popular for weekend getaways. Walking hand-in-hand through these historic streets, especially in the evening when everything’s lit up, is pretty special. The value is excellent too — you’re paying for location and comfort, not unnecessary frills. If you want to be in the thick of Mexico City’s cultural heart without spending a fortune, this place delivers exactly that.

Room was clean, comfortable and bathroom was great
What could be improved: We arrived from late night flight, uber driving through was really scary, there were rats running around the street and some dodgy looking people all around. In the light of day, it was actually ok and only a short walk into Zócalo square and the cathedralKaty from Belize – 19 January 2025 (9/10)
The staff was super friendly, especially recption. They gave us a map with the best attractions in tje area withing walking distance. The map also marked where the hotel was. Its in the middle of the Mercados and walking distance of the Zocalo. Perfect area for long walks and stores.
