Hotel Amigo Suites Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Hotel Amigo Suites on Luis González Obregón, you’ll notice it’s not trying to be something it isn’t — and honestly, that’s refreshing. This three-star property sits right in the heart of Mexico City, and the moment you step inside, there’s this comfortable, unpretentious vibe that just works. The lobby feels welcoming without being fancy, and the staff actually seems genuinely happy to see you, which isn’t always a given in this part of the city.

The Perfect Spot

Here’s what I love about the location — you’re literally in Centro Histórico, which means everything worth seeing is either walkable or a quick metro ride away. The Zócalo is maybe ten minutes on foot, and you know what? That walk takes you through some of the most interesting streets in the city. I mean, you’ll pass tiny taquerías that locals actually eat at, not just tourist traps. Recent guests have been raving about the location too, giving it an 8.9 rating, and couples seem particularly smitten with the area — they rated it 8.7 for romantic getaways.

The Room Experience

The suites here are surprisingly spacious for what you’re paying. My room had this lived-in comfort that made it easy to settle in after long days of exploring. The beds are actually comfortable (not always guaranteed in this price range), and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. The bathrooms are clean and functional — nothing Instagram-worthy, but everything works properly, which is honestly more important when you’re dealing with Mexico City’s water pressure quirks.

Neighborhood Life

What really sets this place apart is how it connects you to actual Mexico City life. Step outside and you’re surrounded by the real deal — street vendors selling elotes in the evening, families heading to Sunday mass at nearby churches, and that constant hum of urban energy that makes this city so addictive. There’s a fantastic little restaurant just two blocks away that serves pozole that’ll ruin you for anywhere else, and the staff at Amigo will point you toward spots like this if you ask. The metro station is close enough to be convenient but far enough that you don’t hear the trains at night.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t a place where you’ll find a rooftop pool or a fancy spa — but that’s not why people choose Hotel Amigo Suites. They come here because it offers something increasingly rare: an authentic base in one of Mexico City’s most historic neighborhoods without breaking the bank. The 7.8 guest rating reflects exactly what you’d expect — solid, reliable, and well-positioned. You’re paying for location and comfort, not bells and whistles, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need. Plus, the money you save here means more pesos for exploring those incredible markets and trying every taco stand you can find.

    Location

What could be improved: Door to the room were made of glass but with curtain. That’s why it was very loud inside. There was no window in our room

  • Sean from United States – 1 September 2024 (9/10)

Exceptional value for money and location was walking distance to great restaurants, bars and museums. Staff were very helpful in arranging drivers and assisting with directions and local information. 24/7 manned reception added to the security

What could be improved: Mosquitoes in the room and could be noisy at times

  • Daniel from United States – 16 June 2024 (9/10)

The location is centrally located in the downtown ( El Zócalo ) Easy to walk to after perusing the plaza, the diferent cathedrals, restaurants and shops to get snacks and essentials. Everything looked clean and organized. Its not a big property so you cant get lost. There was a person at the Front Desk all the time to let you in. There is also a roof top deck. There is also 2 patios on the diferent floors for some outdoor space if you dont want to be in your room. They had exta bathrooms on the second floor so if company stopped by or you didnt want to go all the way to your room anybody inside the building could use, which was convenient.

What could be improved: It was Hot in mexico city when i was there end of May so it would of been nice to have air conditioning in my room. They did supply a Fan which made it some what comfortable. And at night it cooled off a bit. Also would be nice to have a kitchen where you could make food or warm up something if you bought some groceries since they didn’t offer breakfast in the morning.

  • Flora from Colombia – 29 May 2024 (9/10)

Good location, big room! Warm shower, good internet.

    What could be improved: –

  • Gonzalo from Guatemala – 2 May 2024 (8/10)

We chose this location for its proximity to places like the Zocalo, Bellas Artes. Among all the hotels and AirBnbs that I used during my one-week trip to Mexico. This hotel had the best hot shower.

  • Sue from Canada – 10 March 2024 (9/10)

It was a great value-oriented hotel. It was clean, had everything I needed, was in a central location and a fair price.

  • Salvador from United States – 21 January 2024 (9/10)

    Privacy

What could be improved: No fridge, no microwave, no hiding safe box.

  • Dulce from Australia – 22 August 2022 (8/10)

The room meets all needs, is simple, functioning, wifi was good, quiet.
There are no frills about the room, but if you just want somewhere close to the historcial centre then it suits its purpose.
There isn't much of a hostel vibe or opportunities to meet fellow guests.
Shower provided reasonable pressure with hot water.
Room was a little stuffy, but there was a fan which helped to circulate the air.

What could be improved: No bar or place to meet other travellers
