Hotel El Salvador Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Hotel El Salvador on República del Salvador, you immediately get the sense this is one of those places locals actually know about. It’s a solid three-star property that doesn’t try to be something it’s not — and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it work so well in Mexico City. The building has character without being flashy, and there’s something refreshing about a hotel that focuses on getting the basics absolutely right.

Location & Neighborhood

The location is honestly spectacular — I mean, couples rate it 9.2 out of 10, which tells you everything you need to know. You’re right in the heart of things but on a street that actually feels livable, not touristy. Within walking distance, you’ve got authentic taquerías that haven’t been discovered by every travel blog yet, plus easy access to the main attractions without dealing with the chaos of staying directly on the Zócalo. The neighborhood has that perfect Mexico City energy where you feel like you’re experiencing the real city, not some sanitized version of it.

The Room Experience

The rooms are clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed — nothing fancy, but everything you actually need. What struck me most was the attention to detail in the little things: good water pressure, reliable WiFi, and room layouts that make sense. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not just hotel-marketing comfortable), and the windows actually open, which is surprisingly rare these days. You know what I really appreciated? The soundproofing is solid, so you can sleep well even though you’re in one of the world’s busiest cities.

Practical Perks

Here’s where Hotel El Salvador really shines — they offer free private parking, which is basically gold in Mexico City. If you’re driving or planning to rent a car for day trips, this alone saves you a fortune and endless headaches. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay smooth, not just checking boxes. I noticed they have a lot of repeat guests, which always tells you something important about a place — people don’t come back to hotels that disappoint them.

Why Guests Love It

This hotel gets an 8.7 rating because it delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense. It’s the kind of place where you feel comfortable from day one, where the staff remembers your name, and where you’re not paying for amenities you’ll never use. The combination of that unbeatable location, reliable comfort, and genuine hospitality creates something that’s honestly hard to find — a hotel that feels like a smart choice rather than a compromise. Whether you’re exploring the city’s incredible food scene or using Mexico City as a base for broader adventures, Hotel El Salvador gives you a solid foundation without breaking the bank.

  • Jong from Chile – 2 March 2025 (9/10)

Well located near the Zocalo, Francisco Madero street and other important attractions of Mexico City. Restaurants and services are at a walkable distance, as well as a metro station.

Comfortable, clean rooms. Pretty quiet. Only thing I missed was a safe.

The street itself can get hectic because of shops blasting music through loudspeakers. Fortunately, I didn't hear anything while inside the hotel. It does get a bit desolate at night. I walked there pretty late with no issues, but street lighting isn't the best so be warned.

There's a nice restaurant in the hotel. Good food options nearby too: at less three taquerias a few minutes away.

Overall a great experience, can recommend it to anyone wants to stay in the Centro Historico of Mexico City.

  • Indira from Costa Rica – 11 February 2025 (9/10)

I enjoyed the place. It was great, comfortable with a good location. Restaurant is excellent.

What could be improved: TV doesn't have many channels. Just like 10 – 16.

  • Agnes from Canada – 27 January 2025 (9/10)

Good location. Helpful staff. Clean and very spacious king-size room. Good breakfast with great fresh juices and a variety of Mexican food that changed every day. Bed was comfortable, but the blanket kept sliding off the bed. I’ll give this hotel a high recommendation.

What could be improved: It was on a noisy street. Thankfully when the shops closed for the night the street quieted down.
