Hotel Isabel Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Isabel on Isabel la Católica street, you immediately get that feeling — you know, when you realize you’ve stumbled onto something good. This three-star gem sits right in the heart of Mexico City‘s historic center, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. The building has this classic Mexican charm without trying too hard, and there’s something refreshing about a place that doesn’t overwhelm you with flashy lobbies or over-the-top décor.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s the thing about staying on Isabel la Católica — you’re literally in the middle of everything that matters in Centro Histórico. I mean, you can walk to the Zócalo in about five minutes, and the Palacio de Bellas Artes is just around the corner. What really struck me is how the street itself has this perfect mix of local life and tourist attractions. You’ll find authentic taquerías next to art galleries, and the metro station is close enough that getting around the city becomes effortless. Couples seem to absolutely love this spot (they rate the location 9.5, which honestly makes sense when you experience it yourself).
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was clean and comfortable — nothing fancy, but everything you actually need. What I appreciated most was the attention to practical details: good water pressure, reliable WiFi, and windows that actually block out the street noise (which matters when you’re in such a central location). The beds are surprisingly comfortable for a three-star property, and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. You’re getting solid value and a good night’s sleep at this property.
Breakfast & Daily Rhythms
The American-style breakfast works well, especially if you’re planning long days of sightseeing and want something substantial to start with. It’s served in a small dining area that feels more intimate than institutional — actually, it reminds me of having breakfast at a friend’s place rather than a hotel restaurant. The coffee is decent (important in Mexico City), and the staff seems to remember how you like things after a day or two. I noticed quite a few repeat guests during my stay, which tells you something about the place’s ability to make people feel at home.
Why Guests Love It
What keeps people coming back to Hotel Isabel isn’t any single standout feature — it’s how everything comes together. The location puts you right where you want to be, the staff treats you like a person rather than a room number, and the whole experience feels authentic to Mexico City rather than like some generic hotel that could be anywhere. For the price point, you’re getting excellent value, especially considering that prime real estate location. It’s the kind of place where you spend your days exploring the incredible city outside, then come back to a comfortable, unpretentious base that just works.
Mexico hotels keep explorers close to cenote dives, vibrant mercados, and artisan collectives weaving Oaxacan textiles.

Great location in the Centro Histórico. Friendly, accommodating staff
What could be improved: Rates have risen significantly since pre-covid, but most other hotels have, too.Jian from Australia – 13 January 2025 (9/10)
Best location and nice room with view.
Gordon from Mexico – 13 October 2024 (8/10)
The shared bathrooms were spotlessly clean. The building itself is a grand high-ceilinged historical monument.
What could be improved: The receptionists (except one) were officious. My room (with shared bathroom) had no closet, no luggage rack, no bureau or drawers or even a hook on the wall to hang clothing.Nino from Australia – 10 September 2024 (9/10)
Centrally located close to shops, restaurants and tourist spots. Very friendly staff.
Jcalwill from Canada – 7 September 2024 (9/10)
Friendly staff; large, clean, and well-maintained room ; wifi worked well in my room; the shared bathroom was very clean and I never had to wait to use it; close to plenty of restaurants and shops and not far from the main plaza; nice restaurant attached to the hotel with plenty of options
What could be improved: Everything was good.Sergio from United States – 4 June 2024 (7/10)
What could be improved: No a/c and chared bathroom
Diane from United States – 28 May 2024 (9/10)
They have a restaurant on the premises that serves good food.
What could be improved: I was told every day that my room was going to be occupied by another the following night yet I was allowed to stay in the same room each night. This was partly my fault as I only booked for one night. It was, however, confusing.Leslie from Canada – 21 May 2024 (9/10)
Area was fantastic. The bar was a lot of fun and food in the restaurant was really good
What could be improved: Everything was good
