Hotel San Diego Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel San Diego on Luis Moya, you immediately get that feeling of discovering something locals know about but tourists often miss. This three-star spot sits right in the heart of Mexico City, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. The building has that classic Mexican charm without trying too hard — you know what I mean, it feels authentic rather than touristy. The welcoming entrance sets the tone for what awaits inside, with staff ready to assist from the moment you arrive.
The Neighborhood Advantage
Here’s what I love about this area — you’re actually in the real Mexico City, not some sanitized hotel district. Luis Moya puts you within walking distance of the historic center, but you’re far enough away that you won’t be dodging tour groups every five minutes. I mean, couples are rating the location 9.0 out of 10, and after spending time here, I totally get why. You can grab street tacos at 2 AM or find a proper restaurant for dinner without having to plan your whole evening around transportation. The neighborhood truly captures the essence of authentic urban exploration.
The Room Experience
The rooms are exactly what you’d expect from a solid three-star — clean, comfortable, and surprisingly quiet given how central you are. Nothing fancy, but everything works, and the beds are actually pretty decent (which, let’s be honest, is half the battle when you’re exploring a city all day). Each room has that straightforward setup that just makes sense, and the air conditioning is a lifesaver during Mexico City’s warmer months. Modern amenities blend seamlessly with practical design.
Morning Fuel
Breakfast here is American-style, which might sound weird in Mexico City, but it actually works really well. Sometimes you just want familiar food before diving into a day of exploring, and they do a solid job with the basics. The coffee is decent — not amazing, but it’ll definitely wake you up. What’s nice is that you can fuel up and be out exploring the Zócalo or Palacio de Bellas Artes within 15 minutes. The dining area provides a comfortable start to your day.
Why Guests Love It
The free parking is honestly a game-changer if you’re driving in Mexico City (though I’d recommend thinking twice about that). But what really sets this place apart is how recent guests keep rating it so highly — 8.3 overall and 8.9 for location specifically. That tells you something real about the experience. It’s not trying to be the fanciest hotel in the city, but it nails the fundamentals: great location, fair price, and staff who actually seem to care about making your stay work. For couples especially, this seems to hit that sweet spot of being romantic enough without breaking the bank, and central enough that you can be spontaneous about your plans. The consistent positive feedback reflects genuine guest satisfaction and reliable service.
Mexico’s apartments welcome families with rooftop gardens, bilingual childcare, and quick access to interactive museums.

What could be improved: The rate per night more expensive than the one shown in application.

How clean it was
What could be improved: There was a group who was partying until 3-4 am and the staff didn’t help too much to make it less noisy, so we had some hard time sleepingNestor from United States – 24 December 2023 (9/10)
Very clean and confortable with friendly staff. Free parking when bringing my own vehicle. Staff is always friendly and helpful. It's not too far from Alameda and Bellas Artes. It's within a 15-20 min walk to Arena Mexico if you're bored and want to go for a Lucha Libre event; I highly recommend attending a Lucha Libre event if your itinerary allows!
What could be improved: Hotel san Angel is great for confort, value and location, don't give me wrong. But if I have to mention something then perhaps it would be it's business center. Only because the computers are a bit outdated. Most of us that travel for work will have our own Laptops to use, but if it wasn't the case it would be a bit hard to do some work as some of the tools needed are outdated and processor/ram wouldn't handle them. Again, not a big deal if you have your own laptop since the Internet signal is strong for zoom or webex if need, plus it quiet.Daljit from United Kingdom – 7 November 2022 (7/10)
Comfortable room. Very clean. Lots of space

The hotel is spotless, room, lobby, hallways. The room was well thought out, with outlets and dresser. It was just the size we needed. We asked for a fan to help the ventilation and this worked fine. It was generally quiet. The location was great for us, within walking distance to the Zocalo, museums, metro. A great market within 2 blocks. 2 cafes across and down the street.
What could be improved: The restaurant that is attached is not good. It is unusual for my husband to order something and leave food on the plate. The coffee is bad. Powdered creamer, no milk. If not for the restaurant I would give the hotel a 10. However, the restaurant was always lively with guests, so other people did not mind.Sandra from United States – 2 November 2022 (7/10)
the staff was very nice and helpful. the rooms were very clean, the food at the hotel restaurant was very good.
What could be improved: the room was rundown !! the fan in the bathroom was extremely loud!! no heating or air conditioning.Peter from United Kingdom – 5 October 2022 (8/10)
Good location for the historical centre and also close to some of the more local bars, restaurants and parks.
Great size rooms and bathrooms (had a king room), adjoining bar/restaurant which also does breakfasts. I was there at a weekend and the breakfast room was very busy with not enough staff but the breakfasts looked great.Barbara from Italy – 22 September 2022 (9/10)
