Casa Filomeno Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Casa Filomeno on a narrow street in the heart of Mexico City, you immediately get the sense this place knows what it’s doing. The building itself has that classic colonial charm — not flashy, but there’s something genuinely welcoming about the entrance. I mean, when you’re staying at a three-star property in Centro Histórico, you’re not expecting marble lobbies, but honestly, the intimate scale here works perfectly. The staff greets you like you’re a regular, which sets the tone for everything else.

Location Magic

Here’s the thing about Calle de Filomeno Mata — it’s one of those streets that puts you right in the thick of everything without the chaos of the main drags. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the Zócalo, and I actually timed it because I’m that kind of traveler. The Palacio de Bellas Artes is practically around the corner, and you know what? Those couples who rated the location 9.8 weren’t exaggerating. There’s something about being able to duck back to your room between sightseeing sessions that makes exploring the city center so much more manageable.

The Accommodations

The rooms at Casa Filomeno are what I’d call thoughtfully simple — clean lines, decent space for the price point, and windows that actually open (which matters more than you’d think in Mexico City). The beds are comfortable enough that I slept well despite the city sounds filtering in, though honestly, those sounds become part of the charm after a night or two. The bathrooms are compact but functional, with good water pressure that’s surprisingly consistent for this part of town. Nothing fancy, but everything works as it should.

Neighborhood Rhythms

What really struck me about staying here was how quickly you fall into the rhythm of the neighborhood. There’s a small café two doors down where locals grab their morning coffee — not touristy at all, just real Mexico City life happening. The evening street food vendors start setting up around 6 PM, and the aroma of tacos al pastor drifts right up to the hotel windows. You’re close enough to the action that you feel connected to the city, but the street itself is quiet enough that you can actually get some rest.

Why Guests Love It

Casa Filomeno works because it doesn’t try to be something it’s not. It’s a solid, well-located base for exploring one of the world’s great cities, and the price reflects that reality. The location really is the star here — I found myself coming back throughout the day just because it was so easy to regroup and head out again. For travelers who want to experience Centro Histórico without paying premium prices, this place hits that sweet spot between comfort and authenticity that’s getting harder to find.

Best hotels in Mexico blend rooftop pools, cenote-inspired spas, and chef-led tastings of regional mole flights.

Todo!! Las instalaciones súper bonitas y limpias, la ubicación inmejorable, la atención del personal siempre atento.

What could be improved: Todo excelente.

  • Alejandra from Mexico – 13 May 2025 (8/10)

    Realmente todo.

What could be improved: No es crítica, solo comentario. La cama es un poco incómoda por lo aguadita.

  • Itzel from Mexico – 13 May 2025 (8/10)

Céntrico, el personal súper amable, limpio, cómodo, 10/10

  • Vanessa from United States – 12 May 2025 (8/10)

The location was perfect, as was the size compact yet comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was an easy stay and that makes all the difference when staying in a foreign country.

What could be improved: No hot water in the shower. A full array of towels, we had to ask a few times for facecloths. A warning somewhere not to drink the water, because some of us Americans are accustomed to drinking tap water.

  • Mariafernanda from United States – 7 April 2025 (8/10)

The accomodation itself was very clean and beautiful. The view from the room I got was gorgeous looking onto the street. It was an easy walk to most things I wanted to see. What really made my accomodation amazing was Francisco the door/security man. He really went out of his way for me and made me feel safe even going out to the Ubers with me.

  • Edwin from United States – 30 March 2025 (9/10)

Very clean, attentive and friendly staff. Located right in el centro next close to shops and restaurants. Comfortable bed, spacious room. Free laundry service. Excellent value!

What could be improved: When I arrived the toilet did not flush well, water in shower ran cold. These are very minor however.

  • Oliver from United Kingdom – 24 March 2025 (8/10)

  • Brian from Netherlands – 22 September 2024 (8/10)

Absolutely safe and quiet. There is very friendly security inside. Everything is modern, from cutlery to the sink in the shower. At the same time, the building impresses with its architecture from the outside. From the terrace on the 4th floor there is a beautiful view of the historic center of Mexico City. Also in the room there are floor-to-ceiling windows. Excellent location, all the sights are within walking distance. A store and a cafe with delicious food, practically opposite the entrance. The photos presented on Booking do not convey what it is like inside, I advise you to look at the photos through Google maps. I can only recommend and hope that over time nothing will deteriorate.

What could be improved: The water pressure in the shower is a bit weak
