Here’s the thing about staying right on Jardin Centenario — you’re in the absolute heart of one of Mexico City’s most charming neighborhoods. The Frida Kahlo Museum is just a few blocks away (hence the hotel name, which makes perfect sense once you’re here), and you can walk to Casa Azul in about ten minutes. What I really loved is how the cobblestone streets around the hotel are lined with cafes and artisan shops that actually cater to locals, not just tourists. You know what’s great? On weekends, there are often cultural events right in the square below, so you get this authentic Mexican experience without even trying.

The Rooms

The rooms have this colonial charm that feels authentic without being stuffy — exposed wooden beams, colorful tiles, and windows that actually open to let in the sounds of the plaza. My room had a small balcony overlooking the square, which was perfect for morning coffee while watching the neighborhood come to life. The beds are comfortable (not hotel-chain perfect, but genuinely cozy), and the bathrooms have those beautiful Talavera tiles that you see throughout Mexican colonial architecture. It’s not ultra-modern, but that’s exactly the point.

Daily Life at the Hotel

Mornings here have a rhythm — you’ll hear the church bells from the nearby Parroquia San Juan Bautista, and by 8 AM, vendors are setting up in the square below. The hotel staff genuinely knows the neighborhood, so when you ask for restaurant recommendations, they’re sending you to places where they actually eat, not tourist traps. I spent most evenings on the hotel’s terrace area, watching families stroll through the plaza while kids played around the fountain. There’s something really peaceful about it, especially after dealing with the intensity of central Mexico City.

Couples absolutely adore this place — and I can see why they rated the location a 9.5. You’re staying in what feels like a small Mexican town, but you’re still technically in Mexico City with easy metro access when you want it. The hotel captures that perfect balance of being immersed in local culture without feeling isolated from the city’s energy. Plus, having Frida Kahlo’s former neighborhood as your backyard is pretty special — you’ll find yourself taking evening walks past the same streets she once knew, which adds this layer of history to your stay that you just can’t get in the hotel zones.

  Don't hesitate to book if you want to be in the center of all the action in Coyoacan. We loved being able to open our balcony doors and look out over the park, where everything is happening. It's a beautiful, shady park with ample benches, street performers, and vendors. Just to add, however, that the park quiets down around 10 pm most nights. Traffic can be loud early in the morning since the apt is on the corner of a busy street. Avenue Francisco Sosa is just a block away, a beautiful, shady, residential street for long, interesting walks with some beautiful, free, cultural centers along the way. Family oriented area, very safe feeling. Dozens of restaurants just steps away. The mercado is about 6 blocks away, where you can find just about anything.
  Apartment was clean, bed was comfy, owner was responsive and helpful. We would love to come back some day!
  
  What could be improved: The only thing we wished we had was a stove top or hot plate and a few pans. We were there for 2 weeks and missed having the opportunity to cook a few meals in the apt. For shorter stays, if you plan to eat out every meal, not a problem.

  La ubicacion es buena, centrico, pero por eso lo elegimos.
  
  What could be improved: Habia mucho ruido de trafico, sobre todo trambien en la noche. No logramos dormir bien. La cama no muy grande ademas. Y habia frio, la casa es oscura. No logramos prender la television, no funciono. El bano chico.
