Frida Costa Azul Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Frida Costa Azul on Fray Servando Teresa de Mier, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from a three-star hotel in downtown Mexico City. But you know what? This place surprised me in the best way possible. The lobby has this warm, welcoming vibe that immediately puts you at ease — nothing fancy, but clean and thoughtfully designed with subtle nods to Frida Kahlo’s artistic legacy. The staff greeted me like I was an old friend returning home, which actually makes sense given how many repeat guests they have here.

Location & Getting Around

The location is honestly fantastic, especially if you want to be in the thick of things in Centro Histórico. You’re walking distance from the Zócalo, the cathedral, and tons of authentic taquerías that locals actually frequent. I mean, couples consistently rate this spot 8.6 out of 10, and after spending time here, I get why. The neighborhood can feel a bit gritty at first — this is real Mexico City, not some sanitized tourist bubble — but that’s part of its charm. Plus, having free parking right at the hotel is practically unheard of in this part of the city, which is a huge relief if you’re driving.

The Room Experience

My room was simple but comfortable, with everything I actually needed for a good night’s sleep. The bed was surprisingly firm (in a good way), and the air conditioning worked perfectly — crucial during those sweltering Mexico City afternoons. The bathroom was compact but functional, with decent water pressure and hot water that actually stayed hot. What I appreciated most was how quiet it was at night, despite being on a busy avenue. The windows do a solid job of blocking out the street noise, so you can actually get some rest.

Daily Life at the Hotel

The restaurant serves straightforward Mexican fare that’s honestly better than I expected from a hotel this size. Their breakfast is simple but fresh — think eggs, beans, tortillas, and really good coffee that’ll wake you up properly. The staff here clearly takes pride in what they do, and it shows in the little details. They remember your name after the first day, help with directions without making you feel like a clueless tourist, and genuinely seem to care about whether you’re having a good time in their city.

Why Guests Love It

Here’s the thing about Frida Costa Azul — it’s not trying to be something it’s not. It’s a solid, reliable place to stay that gives you authentic access to Mexico City without breaking the bank. The fact that so many people come back tells you everything you need to know about the experience. You’re not getting marble bathrooms or a rooftop pool, but you are getting a clean, comfortable base in one of the city’s most vibrant neighborhoods, with staff who actually care and amenities that work. For exploring the real Mexico City, this place just makes sense.

Hotels near me in Mexico deliver quick metro rides to Chapultepec forests, mariachi plazas, and sunrise balloons over Teotihuacan.

Reviews of Frida Costa Azul

  • Angela from Nigeria – 27 May 2025 (9/10)

The location was great and central. Clean and quiet environment.

What could be improved: The room was a little too small

  • P from United States – 22 May 2025 (7/10)

Friendly housekeeping staff, clean rooms, hot shower with good pressure, small gym and ground floor terrace, filter water available, 24-hr check in available, a 5 walk from the metro station (pink line 1), 10-15 minute walk to historical centre, a decent sized room. Basic toiletries provided – shampoo, shower gel. Soap.

What could be improved: Check-in process ok – instead of photocopying ID, would have preferred that they just wrote down your name, ID number and Country, no air-conditioning so rooms did get a bit hot despite providing a fan, internal lock is a chain-lock, noise – you can hear noise from outside your room and also next to a busy road.

  • Chao from Taiwan – 7 May 2025 (9/10)

Good location to the historical center! And as a budget option, everything was beyond my expectations. Staffs are friendly too!!!

What could be improved: The pillow was too flat and hard, maybe they can buy some fat and soft pillows just in case some guest ask for it.
