Hotel Escala Colonia Roma Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Escala Colonia Roma, you immediately get that “this is exactly what I was hoping for” feeling. It’s one of those three-star places that punches way above its weight — honestly, the building has this understated elegance that fits perfectly with the Roma Norte vibe. The entrance feels intimate rather than grand, which I actually prefer when I’m trying to get a real sense of Mexico City. The attention to detail is evident from the moment you arrive.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s the thing about staying on Coahuila street — you’re basically in the heart of one of the city’s most walkable neighborhoods. I mean, you can stroll to Mercado Medellín in about ten minutes for the best tacos al pastor, and Parque México is right there when you need some green space. The couples who stay here aren’t wrong to rave about the location (they give it a 9.3, which honestly makes sense). You can walk to Roma Sur’s galleries and cafés, but you’re also close enough to catch the metro at Insurgentes when you want to explore further. The neighborhood truly offers the best of both worlds.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was clean and thoughtfully designed — nothing fancy, but everything worked perfectly. The beds are actually comfortable (you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case), and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. What I really appreciated was the attention to details like good lighting and decent water pressure. The windows open onto the street, so you get that authentic city soundtrack, but it’s not overwhelming. Every element serves a purpose.
Practical Perks
One thing that sets this place apart is the private parking — and if you’ve ever tried to park in Roma Norte, you’ll understand why that’s huge. Most hotels in this area either don’t have parking or charge extra for it. The staff actually knows the neighborhood well, so they can point you toward the best local spots rather than just the touristy ones. I got some great recommendations for mezcal bars that I never would have found otherwise. This local knowledge is invaluable.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t a place that’s trying to impress you with marble lobbies or rooftop pools. What it does is give you a solid, comfortable base in one of Mexico City’s most interesting neighborhoods. The 8.4 rating reflects exactly what you get — reliable comfort with genuine local character. Recent guests keep mentioning the location (they rate it 9.2), and after spending time here, I completely understand. You’re not just staying near the action; you’re actually part of the neighborhood rhythm. It’s the kind of place where you end up extending your stay because you realize you’ve found your Mexico City home base.
Best hotels in Mexico blend rooftop pools, cenote-inspired spas, and chef-led tastings of regional mole flights.

Reviews of Hotel Escala Colonia Roma
Carlos from Germany – 27 March 2025 (8/10)
Nice, comfortable room for a short stay (2 nights max), as it only had internal windows so it doesnt feel very private + can be very noisy as you can hear people coming and going constantly.
Morten from Netherlands – 4 February 2025 (8/10)
It’s very clean and the location is perfect
What could be improved: It can be a bit noisy, but we ware on the ground floor and the floor is made of tiles, so it echoes a bit.Edgar from Peru – 23 January 2025 (8/10)
It has everything you need to work. It has good Wifi and a great location.
What could be improved: It's a little bit noisy but tolerable. Probably you need a room far from to the stairs.Shan from United Kingdom – 3 January 2025 (8/10)
Clean and good location in Roma area
What could be improved: Need to deposit passport in exchange for blow dryer each time after showerNika from Slovenia – 31 December 2024 (7/10)
We loved the location and the super helpful staff. We were able to leave the suitcases for the day in the storage room on the last day and were able to check in super early so the 24/7 reception was a plus.
What could be improved: The noise from other rooms and outside. The walls are really really thin – you could hear anything. Even just the talk, the locking / unlocking of the doors..Linda from Netherlands – 31 December 2024 (8/10)
The location is really great, on the edge of roma and some nice coffee bars / breakfast places close by.
What could be improved: It was quite noisy in the room, i could hear the people in the room next to me quite loud.Laure from Germany – 13 December 2024 (8/10)
Clean and well decorated room
great location
What could be improved: My room was on the side of the street in front of the reception, would take another one if possible.Mikhail from France – 9 October 2024 (7/10)
All new room design. I appreciated a lot usb ports in electrical outlets both type A and type C
What could be improved: No outside windows. There was one window in bedroom and one in toilet but both led into the corridor of my floor instead of the street. I didn’t feel safe to keep them open while I’m out and there was no point of them in general.Qi from China – 6 October 2024 (8/10)
Close to the metro line 3. The neighborhood was nice and has a lot of cafe and restaurant. Even the food stand by the street seems to be a lot cleaner. The staff member was nice. I can leave my luggage here.
What could be improved: The room has a window but it was facing inside the building. Sometimes there was noises from other residents.Lee from United States – 9 July 2024 (9/10)
Reception and entire team were really nice, always greet guests with a smile. Hotel is going thru remodeling till september, we really didn’t mind the bit of noise of workers carrying metal beams walking in and out of hotel. they were polite and nice. it didn’t affect our stay. When hotel ran of water, we simply use bottled water to wipe down, and used nearby starbucks for bathrooms. For noise from construction, we just use earplugs, slept well. Wonderful stay, we extended our stay several days. high security, everyday we have to go to reception to program our door card again. It is a bit difficult when we came back late and tired. hotel staff always greet you with a smile. nice hotel
What could be improved: brown plastic type of blanket makes it really uncomfortable and hard to spot mosquitoes and bugs since room has no air conditioning.
