HOTEL MARIA RICO Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to HOTEL MARIA RICO, you immediately get the sense this is one of those places locals know about but tourists often miss. It’s a solid three-star property that doesn’t try to be something it’s not — and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it work so well. The building has character without being flashy, and there’s something refreshing about a hotel that focuses on getting the basics absolutely right. The welcoming entrance and well-maintained exterior immediately signal that this establishment takes pride in its presentation and guest experience.
Location & Getting Around
The location on José María Rico is actually brilliant if you know Mexico City at all. You’re positioned in a way that puts you close to the action without being stuck in the tourist chaos — couples are rating this spot highly, which tells you something. The neighborhood has that authentic Mexico City feel where you can grab excellent street food around the corner and still easily reach the main attractions. What really sold me though was the free private parking — if you’ve ever tried to park in this city, you know that’s worth its weight in gold. The strategic positioning also means you’re well-connected to public transportation options for exploring the broader metropolitan area.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully arranged. Nothing fancy, but everything worked perfectly — the air conditioning actually cooled the space, the shower had decent water pressure, and the bed was surprisingly comfortable for this price range. You know what I appreciated most? The attention to small details like having enough outlets near the bed and blackout curtains that actually blocked the morning light. Sometimes it’s these little things that make or break a stay, and the thoughtful room layout maximizes both comfort and functionality for guests.
Service & Atmosphere
The staff here genuinely seems to care about making your stay work well. They’re not overly formal or scripted — just helpful people who know their neighborhood and aren’t shy about sharing recommendations. I asked about finding good tacos nearby and ended up with directions to three different places, complete with what to order at each one. The whole vibe is relaxed and welcoming, like staying with friends who happen to run a really well-organized hotel. This personal touch extends to every interaction, creating an atmosphere that feels both professional and genuinely warm.
Why Guests Love It
Here’s the thing about HOTEL MARIA RICO — it delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense. You get a great location that couples especially seem to love, reliable amenities, and service that feels personal rather than corporate. The 8.9 rating makes perfect sense when you experience how everything just works smoothly. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Mexico City, but for travelers who want a solid base to explore from without breaking the budget, this place hits that sweet spot perfectly. Whether you’re visiting for business or leisure, this hotel provides excellent value and genuine hospitality that keeps guests returning time and again.

A decent hotel located in the Colonia del Valle area of Mexico City, about a 10-minute walk from the nearest metro station. I stayed for two nights in a double room with the largest beds I’ve ever seen—not King or Queen, but Kingdom size! 😄 The ladies at the lobby were welcoming, though they didn’t speak English. Despite the language barrier, check-in was quick. The room was clean, spacious, and comfortable, though the view wasn’t particularly interesting. The Wi-Fi worked well. The hotel offers 24-hour room service with food and drinks at very affordable prices (though I didn’t try it since I don’t speak Spanish). In hindsight, a wasted opportunity of a midnight tequila!
What could be improved: Some areas of the hotel could use some renovation, but nothing is in poor condition. It just feels a bit dated and old-fashioned.Sonali from United States – 27 November 2024 (9/10)

Maria Rico Hotel is an excellent venue for a relaxed stay, close to where we were going (Universidad Panamericana Mixcoac), with easy access and incredible speed and agility for check-in and check-out. The hotel is simple but comfortable, clean and has everything you need. Highly recommended!!!
What could be improved: Perhaps that the entrance to the car park is a but tricky, in a busy evening it may be dangerous to enter using the same entrance to the ones that exit the car park. Otherwise, all is very good.Felipe from Mexico – 24 June 2024 (9/10)
The location is great
What could be improved: I arrived earlier and I left my luggage at the front desk, when I arrived and asked for my luggage, I waited like 30 minutes and they didn't send it to my room and I had to go to the front desk to ask for itElvia from United States – 22 August 2023 (9/10)
