Hotel Palace México Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Hotel Palace México, you immediately get that classic Mexico City vibe — it’s not trying to be something it’s not, which I honestly appreciate. This three-star property sits right in Colonia Tabacalera, and while it might not have all the bells and whistles of the fancy places, there’s something refreshingly straightforward about it. The lobby has that old-school Mexican hotel charm, and the staff actually seems to care about helping you figure out the city.

Location That Actually Works

Here’s the thing about staying in Tabacalera — you’re basically in the sweet spot of Mexico City without the tourist chaos. I mean, couples are rating this location 9.3 out of 10, and after spending time here, I get why. You can walk to the Alameda Central in about ten minutes, and the Zona Rosa is right there when you want decent restaurants and nightlife. What really sold me though was how easy it is to grab the Metro — Revolución station is super close, so you’re connected to pretty much everywhere you’d want to go.

The Room Experience

Look, the room isn’t going to blow your mind, but it’s clean and comfortable in that no-nonsense way. The beds are actually pretty decent (I’ve definitely slept worse in pricier places), and you get air conditioning that works — which, trust me, matters in Mexico City. The bathrooms are small but functional, and honestly, when you’re spending most of your time exploring the city anyway, having a solid place to crash is what counts. Plus, there’s free WiFi that doesn’t cut out every five minutes.

Breakfast and Practical Perks

The American breakfast they serve is… well, it’s American breakfast. Nothing fancy, but it gets the job done with eggs, toast, and coffee that’s better than you’d expect. What I really appreciated was the free private parking — if you’re driving in Mexico City (brave soul), this is actually a huge deal. Most places either don’t have parking or charge you an arm and a leg for it. The hotel also has this relaxed atmosphere where you can actually talk to other travelers without feeling like you’re in some sterile business hotel.

Why Guests Love It

You know what makes this place work? It’s honest about what it is. Recent guests keep rating the location super highly (9.2), and after staying here, I totally understand the appeal. You’re getting solid value in a neighborhood that feels authentically Mexican without being sketchy or overly touristy. The staff knows the area well and can point you toward the good taco places that locals actually eat at. It’s the kind of hotel where you feel like you’re staying in Mexico City, not just visiting it — and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

Best hotels in Mexico blend rooftop pools, cenote-inspired spas, and chef-led tastings of regional mole flights.

    Location, price

  • Ismael from Mexico – 3 April 2025 (7/10)

Location is perfect, it's near the historic downtown.

What could be improved: The hotel's internet connection is a problem. I had to go to the lobby to connect to the Wi-Fi.

  • Rafael from United States – 9 February 2025 (9/10)

I like that it is in walking distance to monuments and historic center and you have access to lots of public transportation.

What could be improved: The only thing I recommend is that now is time to pay attention to some remodeling , it started to look old (floors and bathrooms in some rooms ) and renew the towels because the ones they put in our room were coming apart in the edges and looked in need of replacement.

  • Luis from United States – 18 January 2025 (7/10)

    Location.

  • Jel from Mexico – 14 November 2024 (9/10)

The personnel was very friendly and calm. The room was spacious and comfortable, and clean. Breakfast was nice and also open until late, which was very convenient.

What could be improved: The only thing I didn’t like was all the posters of the bull fights in the lobby. Remove those and I really have nothing to comment!

  • Ivonne from United States – 2 June 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: Very good location

Location is great. The Cleaning staff is nice. Comfortable bed. Instantly hot water .

What could be improved: The view. The restaurant service is bad. Waitresses with no training and food lacked in taste; the keycard failed repeatedly.

  • Naomi from United Kingdom – 20 April 2023 (7/10)

it was close to the airport considering my flight was missed due to a lost connection because a delayed flight

What could be improved: that it was old and it wasn’t renovated and it definitely needed some air conditioning the sheets were a bit dry not soft

  • Michelle from France – 20 March 2023 (8/10)

the hotel is very well located for visiting the downtown area and for accessing public transportation. the staff was very accommodating. I enjoyed my stay.

What could be improved: The building is a bit old but it was clean and efficient. The location of electric outlets in the room wasn’t very practical. Otherwise it was fine.
