Hotel Patria Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Patria on República de El Salvador, you’ll notice it’s one of those classic three-star properties that doesn’t try to be something it’s not. The building has that solid, no-nonsense feel that’s pretty typical for Mexico City’s Centro Histórico — honestly, it fits right into the neighborhood’s mix of colonial architecture and practical urban buildings. I mean, you’re not going to mistake this for a boutique hotel, but there’s something reassuring about its straightforward approach.
Location Advantages
Here’s what really works about this place — the location is genuinely excellent, and I’m not just saying that because it’s in the city center. You’re literally steps away from the Zócalo, which means you can walk to the Cathedral, Palacio Nacional, and Templo Mayor without dealing with Mexico City’s notorious traffic. The couples who stay here seem to get it — they consistently rate the location around 8.8, and I can see why. You know what’s nice? You can actually explore the historic district on foot, grab street food from the vendors nearby, and still feel like you’re staying somewhere legitimate.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was clean and functional — think of it as the hotel equivalent of a reliable friend. Nothing fancy, but the bed was comfortable enough, and the bathroom had decent water pressure (which, honestly, isn’t always a given in this part of the city). The decor is pretty basic, but the windows actually open, and if you’re on the right side of the building, you get some interesting street views of the bustling Centro activity below.
Neighborhood Character
What I really appreciate about staying here is how it puts you right in the thick of authentic Mexico City life. The streets around Hotel Patria are busy during the day with office workers, tourists, and locals going about their business — it’s that perfect mix where you feel like you’re experiencing the real city, not some sanitized tourist bubble. There are plenty of small restaurant options within a few blocks, from casual taquerías to more traditional sit-down places, and the metro stations are close enough that you can easily get to other parts of the city.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t going to be the most Instagram-worthy hotel you’ve ever stayed in, but it delivers on what matters most — a solid base for exploring one of the world’s great cities. The recent guest ratings (around 8.9 for location) tell the real story here. You’re paying for position and reliability, not fancy amenities, and that trade-off makes perfect sense if you plan to spend most of your time out exploring the incredible food, museums, and culture that Mexico City has to offer. For the price point and the access it gives you to the historic center, Hotel Patria does exactly what it promises.

What could be improved: Some smells from toilet but we’re covered and okJennifer from United States – 8 November 2023 (4/10)
Big bathroom, close to zocalo, one of the cheapest options in mexico city.
What could be improved: Walls were very thin and next to loud streets. woman and man fighting next door all night. were scared to use towels in case got charged for mascara stain.Timothy from Saudi Arabia – 2 April 2023 (5/10)
What could be improved: The shower was more of a suggestion of water than a shower. Weird rules — they fine you if your towel is too dirty. Didn't feel safe in the room — each room has windows that can easily be opened from the outside.

Location was good, room was clean and staff was really nice.
