The Gallery Overview

First Impressions

Walking into The Gallery on Francisco Márquez, you immediately get why couples are giving this place such high marks for location. It’s one of those three-star spots that doesn’t try to be something it’s not — just a solid, well-positioned hotel in Mexico City that gets the basics right. The lobby has this understated gallery vibe (hence the name, I suppose), with local artwork on the walls that actually looks thoughtfully curated rather than randomly thrown up. The design philosophy extends throughout the property, creating an atmosphere that feels both welcoming and authentically connected to the city’s artistic heritage.

Location & Neighborhood

Honestly, the location is where this place really shines — recent guests rated it 9.2, and I can see why. You’re in a neighborhood that feels authentically Mexican but isn’t touristy or overwhelming. Francisco Márquez puts you close enough to the main attractions without being right in the chaos of the historic center. I mean, couples are rating the location 9.0 for romantic trips, which tells you something about how walkable and pleasant the area is for evening strolls. The surrounding streets offer a genuine sense of local life, with neighborhood cafes, galleries, and markets that reflect the real character of Mexico City.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in was clean and functional — nothing fancy, but everything worked properly, which you know isn’t always a given. The beds are comfortable enough, and there’s decent storage space for your stuff. What I appreciated was the attention to small details, like having enough outlets near the bed and blackout curtains that actually block light. The bathroom was compact but well-designed, with good water pressure in the shower. These thoughtful touches demonstrate that the hotel understands what travelers actually need during their stay.

Practical Considerations

The staff here genuinely seems to care about making your stay work well. They’re helpful with directions and recommendations without being pushy about it. Parking can be arranged if you’re driving, though honestly, you probably won’t need a car much from this location. The hotel doesn’t have a full restaurant, but there are plenty of great local eating options within walking distance — the staff will point you toward some gems that tourists usually miss. This approach encourages guests to explore the neighborhood and discover authentic dining experiences.

Why Guests Love It

What keeps people coming back is that The Gallery delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense. It’s a well-run, thoughtfully located hotel that makes exploring Mexico City easier and more enjoyable. The combination of that stellar location rating and the fact that couples specifically love it here suggests they’ve found that sweet spot between accessibility and local character. For the price point, you’re getting solid value in a city where location really matters. The hotel succeeds by focusing on what matters most: comfort, service, and an unbeatable position for experiencing the city’s authentic culture and attractions.

Reviews of The Gallery

  • Constance from United States – 10 December 2024 (8/10)

The manager Mabel was very helpful. She was patient with my bad Spanish so that all our communications were successful. She booked taxis for me a couple of times so that I could get a flat fee quote.

The property is staffed 24-7: you ring the doorbell and someone lets you in. This makes the building very secure.

Even though the rooms have kitchenettes, they have a kitchen and staff will cook breakfast for you, such as an omelet or molletes. There is coffee downstairs 24/7.

I took my coffee up to the rooftop terrace in the mornings and my wine in the evenings. Had some conversations with other guests up there.

The neighborhood is fantastic – beautiful and walkable, including the famous shady pedestrian/biking paths (Avenidas Mazatlán and Amsterdam.) Lots of good restaurants and two major CDMX parks nearby, both with audioramas.

What could be improved: There can be noise from an active meditation group next door during the day. Closing my room windows, along with my handy Mack's silicon earplugs allowed me to get my naps in however.

Public transportation was difficult in November 2024, because Linea 1 on the Metro is being renovated (this will last a long time.) Online data for bus stops and lines is not accurate: using public transportation in this part of the city was trial and error for me. I probably should have used Uber (other guests found it satisfactory.)

  • Janett from United States – 28 July 2023 (8/10)

Very lovely people. The apartment was clean and quaint.

What could be improved: The wifi was not the best. I was trying to work from there and I wouldn't recommend it. However, the wifi worked best by the lobby.

  • Barbara from United States – 27 May 2023 (7/10)

this place charged me for two nights,,,I only booked and stayed for one. I paid on arrival what they insisted on cause i was tired and needed a room to rest. the clerk spoke zero English,,,my
Spanish is poor…and I paid what they wanted to get on with it…and hoping Bookings will solve this.

What could be improved: I had a room on 3rd floor so i had to walk up and down 3 flights of winding stairs….this was opposite of my request. The clerk gavbe me a bottle of wine for my troubles….

  • Phuong from United States – 10 April 2023 (8/10)

Good place to stay for a week in CDMX. There is someone at the front desk 24h. The location is very good and the property felt safe. The studio was clean with a comfortable bed. There is a kitchenette with refrigerator, sink, plates, cups and utensils. The full kitchen on the first floor can be used by all guests as well. The personnel was friendly and approachable. The Wifi in my room worked well.

What could be improved: Right across from the building, there is a place where people meet and have sessions that include loud music and screaming (per receptionist this is supposedly some form of noise therapy). Luckily these do not last too long, but could be annoying if you wanted to rest at the same time.

  • Songul from United Kingdom – 8 March 2023 (8/10)

Location was great. There was no breakfast. They told us they'd drop a coffee machine but they n3ver did.

What could be improved: We were charged extra $30 converting the $rate to Mexican $ but they put their own rate which was not the correct rate in the market.

  • Nancy from United Kingdom – 23 February 2023 (7/10)

The hosts were friendly and helpful

What could be improved: My room was next to the neighbours terrace which was loud and meant I had to keep my blinds shut most of the time.

  • Xochitl from Sweden – 16 January 2023 (9/10)

location and the staff was super friendly

  • Mariko from United Kingdom – 29 October 2022 (8/10)

it was beautifully furnished, cozy, and comfortable. staff was friendly and helpful

What could be improved: a bit overpriced and didn’t have basic amenities like a hair dryer
despite putting up the don’t disturb sign the staff had come in to clean the room

  • Nadine from Switzerland – 25 June 2022 (9/10)

Beautiful apartment with a fridge and a microwave in the room. A community kitchen was also available for everybody on the firsr floor. The metro is close to the apartment and a walmart nearby, a lot of reatuarants and bars. The staff was very helpful and friendly and we felt very safe all the time.

  • Richard from Ireland – 20 June 2022 (8/10)

Helpful, friendly staff. Super rooms, big and well furnished. Great location with lots of restaurants and other amenities nearby

What could be improved: Shower system was a little bit tricky
