Colmena Monterrey Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Colmena Monterrey, you immediately get the sense that this three-star hotel knows exactly what it’s doing. It’s not trying to be something it’s not — there’s no marble lobby or over-the-top chandeliers — but everything feels clean, modern, and thoughtfully put together. The staff actually greets you with genuine warmth, and honestly, that goes a long way when you’ve been traveling all day.

The Location Advantage

Here’s what I love about staying here: you’re right on Viaducto Presidente Miguel Alemán Valdés, which might sound like a mouthful, but it’s actually one of the best-connected spots in Mexico City. You can get pretty much anywhere without the usual CDMX traffic nightmare. I mean, couples consistently rate this location 8.3 out of 10, and after staying here, I totally get why. You’re close enough to the action but far enough away that you can actually sleep at night — which, trust me, is harder to find in this city than you’d think.

The Room Experience

The room itself is what I’d call “efficiently comfortable.” You won’t find a massive space, but everything you need is there and works properly — the air conditioning actually cools the room, the Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and the bed is surprisingly comfortable for a mid-range hotel. The bathroom is compact but well-designed, and honestly, the water pressure is better than some four-star places I’ve stayed at in the city. There’s also decent soundproofing, which is crucial when you’re dealing with Mexico City’s constant hum of activity outside.

Practical Perks

What really sets this place apart are the little things that make your stay easier. The front desk staff speaks solid English if your Spanish is rusty, and they’re genuinely helpful with directions and recommendations — not just the touristy stuff, but actual local spots worth checking out. The hotel also has reliable parking, which anyone who’s tried to navigate CDMX by car will tell you is worth its weight in gold. Plus, there’s a decent restaurant on-site that serves solid Mexican comfort food without the inflated hotel prices you’d expect.

Why Guests Love It

Look, Colmena Monterrey delivers exactly what most travelers actually need: a clean, comfortable base in a great location with staff who care about your experience. The 7.6 rating feels about right — it’s a solid choice that won’t disappoint, especially if you’re planning to spend most of your time exploring the city rather than lounging around the hotel. For the price point, you’re getting genuine value in a city where that’s becoming increasingly rare. The hotel consistently exceeds expectations for its category, offering reliable service and thoughtful amenities that enhance your stay without unnecessary frills.

Reviews of Colmena Monterrey

  • Abimbola from Mexico – 29 March 2025 (9/10)

    The staffs were the best

  • Denis from Guatemala – 9 December 2024 (6/10)

It was clean, the staff was nice.

What could be improved: The rooms are in front of a very busy main street so the noise is present the whole night, and the doors and windows are not sound proof

  • Snip2007 from United States – 18 November 2024 (7/10)

    Location, cleanliness and staff

What could be improved: Outdated, noise from the outside

  • Chet from United Kingdom – 23 October 2024 (8/10)

    Clean and good location

What could be improved: Very loud at night as on a main road. No hot water and weak shower

  • Brayan from Mexico – 8 July 2024 (7/10)

The closest metro station is within 10 minute walk. Despite being on a main road is not as noisy as you would think. There's no elevator so watch out if you get a room on the 5th floor. There seems to be more like a guesthouse than a suite as there's people living there. The kitchen gets crowded during meal times but even like that the whole facility is clean to detail.

What could be improved: There's no elevator and only a very small fan. More plugs would be nicer. Passerby people can see through the windows as the cover is smaller than the window

  • Kc_travel from United Kingdom – 6 July 2024 (8/10)

Great location as it is within walking distance of many amenities, very sociable friendly staff and facilities (washing machine and dryer room instantly wins out over many other hotels!!), instantly became my one place to lodge when ever I visit Mexico City. That said this particular hotel is next to a busy road, so ear plugs are an absolute must if sensitive to noise!

What could be improved: The road side traffic can get really crazy during rush hours, plus you have motorcyclists gunning it through out the day at random which can grate if not used to being close to noise.

  • Irene from Costa Rica – 27 May 2024 (9/10)

Well equipped, and gave me a chance to meet a very diverse group of people

What could be improved: I was on the top floor and there’s no elevator so it was a bit of a workout, still worth it

  • Alicia from Mexico – 7 March 2024 (8/10)

I really like the location, very centric, close to the metro station and to some malls and food stalls (recommended!)

What could be improved: I didn't like that the toilet paper was limited, and there was no tv in the room, and from our window people could see us (we had a courtain but it blocked the entrance of air)

  • Hollie from United Kingdom – 19 February 2023 (7/10)

Easy check in process and affordable room prices. Still get privacy and have your own bathroom which is great! Lovely thoughtful touches from staff with towels, chocolate and bottles of water on the bed upon arrival.

What could be improved: My room was located next to the busy road and it's loud at night even with the door shut. I'm ok with noises but maybe not the best for sensitive sleepers unless they have good earplugs.

  • Espin from Ecuador – 12 September 2022 (7/10)

What could be improved: too much noise from the street. you woke up to the sound of honks.
