Hotel Panuco Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Hotel Panuco on Ayuntamiento Street, you immediately get that “local favorite” vibe — and honestly, that’s exactly what this place is. This three-star hotel sits right in the heart of Mexico City’s Centro Histórico, and I mean really in the heart of it. The building itself has that classic colonial charm you’d expect from this neighborhood, but what struck me most was how many guests I overheard mentioning they’d stayed here before. Turns out there’s a reason for that.
Location That Actually Matters
You know what’s great about staying here? You can walk to the Zócalo in about five minutes, hit up the Palacio de Bellas Artes without breaking a sweat, and still feel like you’re staying somewhere that locals would actually recommend. The street itself — Ayuntamiento — runs parallel to some of the main tourist drags, so you get all the accessibility without the constant noise of tour buses. I noticed couples seem particularly drawn to this spot, and after spending a few days wandering around, I totally get why.
The Room Experience
My room was honestly better than I expected for a three-star property in this area. Nothing fancy, but everything worked properly — the air conditioning actually cooled things down, the Wi-Fi didn’t cut out every ten minutes, and the bed was comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up feeling like I’d been wrestling with the mattress all night. The windows face the street, so you get a bit of that authentic Mexico City soundtrack, but it’s not overwhelming. What I really appreciated was the attention to cleanliness — everything felt fresh and well-maintained.
Practical Perks
Here’s something you don’t find everywhere in Centro Histórico — free parking right at the hotel. If you’re driving in Mexico City (brave soul), this is actually a huge deal. Most places either don’t have parking at all or charge you an arm and a leg for it. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay work out well, and I watched them go out of their way to help guests figure out directions and restaurant recommendations. There’s a small restaurant on-site that serves decent Mexican standards — nothing that’ll blow your mind, but solid food when you don’t feel like venturing out.
Why Guests Love It
The repeat guest thing really tells the whole story here. This isn’t the kind of place you stay once for Instagram photos and never think about again. It’s the kind of place you come back to because it works — the location puts you exactly where you want to be, the staff remembers your name, and you’re not paying resort prices for basic hospitality. For couples especially, there’s something appealing about having a reliable home base in one of the world’s most chaotic (in the best way) cities. You’re close enough to dive into all the madness of Mexico City, but you’ve got a quiet spot to retreat to when you need to recharge.
Exploring Mexico reveals sugar-sculpted plazas, jungle ruins, and culinary festivals stretching from Tijuana to Tulum.

Excellent location, extremely walkable.
What could be improved: Limit of 2 towels, fans not available.Artur from Spain – 13 March 2025 (9/10)
The room was simple but quite nice, reasonably spacious, and the bed was very comfortable. It was very clean when I checked in, and the housekeeping kept it clean every single day of my stay.
The big advantage of the room was definitely the jacuzzi in the bathroom, which was very relaxing whenever needed. It worked just fine, and it was well maintained.
The hotel itself was quiet, with just a little bit of noise coming from the street occasionally, but not too much if you closed the window. There was also a music bar nearby, but it wasn't too annoying for me, and I could sleep without problems.
The hotel staff was also kind and helpful. The area felt quite safe, and I didn't have any concerns coming back late at night. If you're looking for decent accommodation on a budget and want to stay close to the city centre I can definitely recommend this accommodation.
What could be improved: The room didn't have any type of air-conditioning nor a fan. It wasn't too hot when I stayed there, so I was fine, but I'm not sure how it works when it gets really hot in Mexico City. You'd probably need to ask for a fan, so bear in mind. Also, having a small fridge in the room would be nice to keep some cold drinks and water. There was definitely some spare space for that in the room.Olvert from Mexico – 13 February 2025 (9/10)
the location is excellent, clean room, not so noisy at night. hot water, elevator, a window with a view to the latin american tower, check out is allowed up to 2pm. close to the Juarez subway station.
Ramil from Russia – 2 February 2025 (9/10)
I arrived to Mexico City early in the morning and immediately went at the hotel. They had an available room, so it was nice to early check in, leave bags and go for a walk. Very cheap price, room cleaned every day. Staff helped with everything. Location is great, very close to seesights and metro station
What could be improved: The center is not safe district. Police everywhere, barbed wires and grids on windows. I came back to the hotel sometimes in the evening after sunset. There was no problem, but still felt unsafeTravis from United States – 6 August 2024 (9/10)
As always, I really appreciated arriving with a reservation, being told the total I owed for the night, being given the room key and TV remote control, and being sent on my way with little procedural effort. Very straightforward and not time consuming; I like that.
What could be improved: I didn’t like the sketchiness of the environment outside the hotel, but it is what it is and that’s not the hotel’s fault.Thomas from Mexico – 2 April 2024 (9/10)
I have stayed at this hotel several times – it is always a good experience and the front desk staff and the cleaning staff are friendly and do a nice job – great location very near public transit and places to eat/shop
Trang from United States – 11 February 2024 (8/10)
The location was very convenient, close to attractions, public transportation, and good restaurants. They did room service every day. The staff were helpful even though they spoke a little English. The bed was quite firm, but we slept well after all.
What could be improved: There was a bar nearby playing loud music every night from Thursdays to Sundays. We stayed in a room close to the street, and it was hard to go to sleep until they stopped past 1.30 am on Thursday.Donka from Bulgaria – 26 January 2024 (8/10)
Very clean. It is easily reachable for the airport by metro and in walkable distance from the city center.
They stored our backpacks for free.Imre from Hungary – 12 November 2023 (7/10)
It was all right for the price, cheap hotel at a good location, fairly close to the historical center. The staff was nice and helpful.
What could be improved: There wasn’t a seat on the toilet and had to ask for a towel. The room was quite noisy.
