Downtown Ciudad de México Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Downtown Ciudad de México, you immediately get that “hidden gem” feeling — it’s tucked away on this narrow little street called Callejón Dolores, which honestly feels more like a secret passage than a proper address. The three-star rating might not sound flashy, but I mean, sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t need to shout about it. The lobby has this understated charm that feels authentically Mexican without trying too hard, and the staff actually remembers your name after the first day.

Location Magic

Here’s the thing about staying in Mexico City — location is everything, and this place absolutely nails it. You’re literally in the heart of Centro Histórico, which means you can stumble out the front door and be at the Zócalo in about five minutes on foot. I’ve stayed at fancier hotels that required a 20-minute Uber ride just to get anywhere interesting. The couples who stay here seem to get it (they rate the location 9.6, which honestly makes perfect sense) — there’s something romantic about wandering these colonial streets together, ducking into cantinas and discovering murals you’d never find otherwise.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in wasn’t huge, but it had character — exposed brick walls, decent-sized windows that actually open (you know how rare that’s becoming?), and surprisingly good water pressure in the shower. What I really appreciated was the attention to local details without going overboard with the “Mexican theme” thing that some hotels do. The beds are comfortable enough, and honestly, when you’re spending most of your time exploring the city, you just need a clean, quiet place to crash.

Neighborhood Vibes

This part of the city comes alive at different times of day, and staying here means you get to experience all of it. Mornings are pretty quiet — perfect for grabbing coffee at one of the local cafés before the crowds hit. By afternoon, the streets fill up with office workers and tourists, but evenings? That’s when the magic happens. The nearby bars and restaurants start buzzing, street vendors set up their stalls, and you get this authentic Mexico City energy that you just can’t find in the touristy zones. Plus, being on a smaller street means it’s actually peaceful at night, which is sort of miraculous for this part of town.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t the kind of place with a rooftop pool or a fancy spa, but that’s not really the point. What Downtown Ciudad de México does well is put you right in the middle of everything that makes this city special — the history, the food scene, the incredible architecture — without charging resort prices. The 8.6 rating tells the real story here: it’s the kind of place that exceeds expectations by focusing on the basics and nailing the location. If you want to actually experience Mexico City rather than just visit it, this is where you want to be.

Mexico’s apartments welcome families with rooftop gardens, bilingual childcare, and quick access to interactive museums.

Reviews of Downtown Ciudad de México

  • Romina from Mexico – 12 May 2025 (9/10)

  • Yvonne from Canada – 20 January 2025 (8/10)

We didn’t get breakfast there, but lots of places to eat once you found your way around.

What could be improved: We enjoyed our room, it was a bit dark but comfortable. It would have been nice to have a couch to sit on. The chairs weren’t that great if you wanted to read etc. we always used the bed to stretch out on. The lounge upstairs was really nice but if there was someone else there then the couch wasn’t available.

  • Natimer from United States – 17 October 2024 (8/10)

Location, accessibility, wifi, kitchenette, gated bldg., elevator, laundry facility

What could be improved: Laundry facility not inside the unit as described, dryer not working. Being a non-Spanish speaker, it would have been nice if we're given verbal or written instruction of the laundry facility upon check in.

  • Adelaida from Germany – 13 September 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: In der Nachbarschaft laut und extrem Regeton Musik!

  • Fabian from Mexico – 3 May 2024 (9/10)

  • Jair from Mexico – 28 April 2024 (8/10)

What could be improved: La tele súper pequeña, no se ve.

  • Michael from Netherlands – 9 April 2024 (9/10)

Location and 24/h frontdesk in gated facility

  • Alma from Mexico – 23 February 2024 (9/10)

  • Paul from United Kingdom – 15 February 2024 (9/10)

Love the location with lots of attractions walkable. China town is full of life and the roof terrace is lovely. Super comfy bed and great staff that offer a 24hr reception. I'd definitely stay again in visiting Mexico City. Nice little Family owned and run place next door for breakfast.

What could be improved: Nothing to mention

  • Francesco from Italy – 15 January 2024 (8/10)
