Hotel Mexicali Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel Mexicali on San Antonio Abad, you immediately get the sense this is a place that knows its neighborhood well. It’s not trying to be something flashy — honestly, that’s part of its charm. The three-star property sits comfortably in Mexico City, and there’s something refreshing about a hotel that focuses on getting the basics absolutely right rather than overwhelming you with unnecessary frills. This approach has earned it a solid reputation among travelers seeking authenticity over ostentation.
Location & Getting Around
You know what really struck me about this spot? The location just works. Couples seem to get this — they’ve rated it 8.4, and I can see why. San Antonio Abad puts you in a part of the city where you’re close enough to everything that matters, but you’re not dealing with the chaos of the absolute center. The fact that they offer free private parking is actually a huge deal in Mexico City — anyone who’s tried to park around here will tell you that. It’s one of those details that makes a real difference when you’re planning your days. Guests consistently praise the accessibility and convenience of the neighborhood.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was clean and well-maintained, which honestly matters more than fancy amenities when you’re exploring a city like this. What I appreciated was the attention to practical details — good water pressure, reliable WiFi, and blackout curtains that actually work. The space felt comfortable without being cramped, and there’s something to be said for a hotel that doesn’t try to cram too much into a small area. Each room is thoughtfully designed for the modern traveler.
Morning Routine
The American breakfast they serve works well if you’re looking for something familiar before heading out to explore. I mean, sometimes you want chilaquiles, and sometimes you just want eggs and toast — Hotel Mexicali gets that. The breakfast area has a relaxed vibe, and the staff seems genuinely interested in making sure you’re set for the day. It’s not elaborate, but it’s consistent, which matters when you’re staying somewhere for more than just a night or two. The quality and variety keep guests satisfied morning after morning.
Why Guests Keep Coming Back
Here’s what really tells you something about a place — they have more repeat guests than most other properties in the area. That’s not an accident. When people choose to stay somewhere again in a city with as many hotel options as Mexico City, it means the place is doing something right. The 7.8 rating reflects what I experienced: solid, reliable hospitality without the pretense. Recent guests have been rating the location at 8.5, and after spending time here, I understand why. It’s that sweet spot where you feel connected to the city but not overwhelmed by it. This hotel delivers genuine value and authentic service.

What could be improved: Wifi is spotty and requires you use other peoples' room number to use. :(. No cable. The restaurant gave my change to a look-a-like. Garage fumes fill the entrance at times. They don't allow eating food in their lobby, though there is lots of space and they put up a child-like sign about it.
