Hotel San Francisco Centro Histórico Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Hotel San Francisco Centro Histórico on Luis Moya, you immediately get that authentic Mexico City vibe — this isn’t some sterile chain hotel trying to be everything to everyone. The building has character, honestly, and you can tell it’s been part of the neighborhood fabric for years. It’s a three-star property that doesn’t pretend to be more than it is, which I actually found refreshing after staying at places that overpromise and underdeliver.
Location Magic
Here’s the thing about staying in Centro Histórico — you’re literally in the heart of everything that matters. I mean, you can walk to the Zócalo in about ten minutes, maybe less if you’re not stopping to gawk at the colonial architecture along the way. The Palacio de Bellas Artes is right there, and honestly, having breakfast and then strolling over to see some Diego Rivera murals before the crowds hit? That’s the kind of morning that makes you feel like you’re actually experiencing the city, not just checking boxes on a tourist list. The couples who stay here seem to get it — there’s something romantic about wandering these historic streets together, especially in the early evening when the light hits those old buildings just right.
The Room Experience
My room was clean and comfortable, nothing fancy but everything worked properly. The beds are decent — not the kind that’ll ruin your back, but don’t expect cloud-like comfort either. What I appreciated was the attention to basics: good water pressure in the shower, reliable WiFi, and windows that actually open (you’d be surprised how many hotels skip that last one). The décor is simple, sort of understated Mexican touches without going overboard with the theme. You know what I mean — no sombreros hanging on the walls or anything touristy like that.
Neighborhood Life
The area around the hotel comes alive in ways that surprised me. During the day, you’ve got street vendors selling everything from fresh fruit to handmade crafts, and there’s this energy that feels genuinely local rather than put on for tourists. In the evenings, the nearby streets fill up with people heading to dinner or just out for a walk — it’s safe and lively without being overwhelming. There’s a great little restaurant about two blocks away that serves incredible pozole, and the hotel staff actually knew about it when I asked for recommendations (always a good sign).
Why Guests Love It
Look, this place works because it delivers exactly what it promises — a solid, well-located base for exploring one of Mexico City’s most fascinating neighborhoods. The staff genuinely seems to care about helping you make the most of your stay, and that goes a long way when you’re trying to navigate a massive city like this one. You’re not paying for marble lobbies or rooftop pools, but you are getting a front-row seat to authentic Mexico City life. For couples especially, there’s something special about being able to walk hand-in-hand through centuries-old streets and then come back to a comfortable, unpretentious place that feels more like a well-run local hotel than a corporate accommodation.
Hotel in Mexico bookings spike during Formula 1 race week, so fans lock in suites overlooking Reforma’s parade route.

I loved the location
Just a few meters from the Alameda and China town, also one block away from the closest subway entrance.
What could be improved: Since the first night I got a problem with the toilet. I reported it to the front desk clerk and was told somebody was coming to take a look.
So the problem was that every time you flushed it, some water will leak from bottom part, where it met the floor.
I had to leave for dinner, but when I came back, they just put some silicone type of glue. The problem was not fixed ever.Eva from United States – 20 May 2023 (7/10)
