OYO Hotel Hidalgo Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to OYO Hotel Hidalgo on Santa Veracruz street, you immediately get that authentic Mexico City vibe — it’s right in the thick of things without being overwhelming. This three-star spot doesn’t try to be something it’s not, which I honestly appreciate. The building has character, and you can tell they’ve put effort into making it welcoming without going overboard on fancy touches that would just jack up the price.
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s what I love about this area — you’re basically in the heart of historic Mexico City, but on a street that locals actually use. The Zócalo is just a few blocks away, and you can walk to places like the Metropolitan Cathedral and Templo Mayor without dealing with tourist trap hotels. I mean, couples are rating the location 8.6 out of 10, and that’s because you’re close enough to everything important but still feel like you’re experiencing real city life. Plus, there’s something to be said for having free parking in this part of town — trust me, that’s not easy to find.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was clean and functional, which is exactly what you want when you’re spending most of your time exploring the city. Nothing fancy, but the bed was comfortable and the air conditioning worked well — actually pretty important during Mexico City’s warmer months. The bathroom was compact but had good water pressure, and honestly, after walking around the city all day, that hot shower hits different. You’re not getting marble countertops or anything, but everything you need is there and it’s well-maintained.
Practical Perks
What really won me over was how straightforward everything is here. The staff speaks enough English to help out, but they’re not putting on some tourist show — they’re just genuinely helpful people. The free parking thing is huge if you’re driving, because finding a safe spot in this neighborhood can be a real headache otherwise. The Wi-Fi actually works throughout the building, which you’d be surprised how often that’s not the case. There’s no fancy restaurant on-site, but honestly, you’re surrounded by incredible local food options that cost a fraction of what hotel dining would run you.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t the kind of place you book for the hotel experience itself — it’s the kind of place you book because it puts you exactly where you want to be without breaking the bank. Recent guests keep rating it highly because it delivers on what it promises: a clean, safe, well-located base for exploring Mexico City. The fact that couples specifically love the location tells you something — it’s romantic enough for evening walks through the historic center, but practical enough that you’re not overpaying for amenities you won’t use. Sometimes the best travel experiences come from places that just get the basics really, really right.
To book a hotel in Mexico during mariachi festivals, visitors plan early to blend rooftop fiestas with sunrise hot-air balloons over valleys.

The staff support was really good
What could be improved: Facilites too old and bed not comfortableMirza from Spain – 7 November 2024 (6/10)
The location was pretty good but it does get sketchy. I also loved how clean the crew made our rooms every single day. The staff was very helpful whenever I needed them.
What could be improved: It looked nothing like the pictures. Basically a cheap 70s motel from the movies. Very old interior that needs to be renovated. The walls are also thin as paper so you can hear everything at all times.Roque from United States – 30 September 2024 (9/10)
I liked the location nearby Mexico City downtown.
What could be improved: I think everything was good.Alexis from Mexico – 3 August 2024 (8/10)
The restaurant is the best part of the hotel, the chef has a very special taste and all the food was cheap and delicious
What could be improved: The bedroom of the lobby, people from other parts as police man get into there and use it, they leave so dirty the placeGeorge from United Kingdom – 14 March 2024 (9/10)
