Second Home Río Po Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Second Home Río Po, you immediately get the sense that this isn’t trying to be something it’s not. This three-star boutique spot in Mexico City has that understated charm that honestly feels more genuine than a lot of flashier places I’ve stayed. The building itself has character — you know, the kind of place where someone clearly put thought into the details without going overboard. The design philosophy here prioritizes authenticity over ostentation, creating an environment that welcomes guests seeking genuine hospitality.

The Neighborhood Advantage

Here’s what I love about the location on Río Poo — it’s in one of those pockets of the city where you feel like you’re actually living somewhere, not just visiting. You’re close enough to the main attractions that nothing feels like a trek, but far enough from the tourist chaos that you can grab coffee in the morning without fighting crowds. The street has this nice residential vibe, and I found myself walking around just to explore the local shops and cafes. Couples seem to really get this area — apparently they rate the location super highly, and I can see why.

The Room Experience

My room was exactly what I hoped for — clean, thoughtfully designed, and comfortable without any unnecessary frills. The beds are genuinely good (I’m picky about this), and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. What struck me was how quiet it was at night, which honestly surprised me given that we’re still in Mexico City. The windows are well-insulated, and you get decent natural light during the day. Each room reflects careful attention to comfort and functionality.

Daily Rhythms

Mornings here have this nice, unhurried feel. The staff genuinely seems to care about making sure you’re sorted for the day, and they know the neighborhood well enough to give you actual useful recommendations — not just the obvious tourist spots. When someone tells you about a local taco place that’s actually worth the walk, you know they’re paying attention. The whole operation runs smoothly without feeling overly formal or stuffy, creating an atmosphere of relaxed professionalism.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this place gets a 9.2 rating for good reason — it delivers on what it promises without any pretense. You’re not paying for marble lobbies or concierge services you don’t need, but you are getting a genuinely well-run place in a great part of the city. The location score of 9.7 from recent guests tells you everything you need to know about how this area works for travelers. It’s the kind of place where you feel settled after the first night, and by the time you leave, you’re already thinking about staying here again next time you’re in town. The consistent praise reflects a commitment to quality and guest satisfaction.

Reviews of Second Home Río Po

  • Julia from Poland – 18 February 2025 (6/10)

Location, safety, room was clean and everything was new

What could be improved: Humidity in the room (specific smell also), no window, humidity damage, noises (we had a room on the ground floor)

  • Julia from Germany – 14 February 2025 (6/10)

The location is excellent. The place is also secure.

What could be improved: The rooms do not have windows. That is not very nice. The air does not circulate and there was even a bit of mold.

  • Gema from Mexico – 2 February 2025 (8/10)

    Good location and facilities.

What could be improved: My room was right in front of reception so there was a lot of noise. The rooms don’t have windows.

  • Alexandra from Canada – 15 January 2025 (7/10)

    Clean, modern and functional.

What could be improved: Paper thin walls, not fire safe.

  • Signe from Denmark – 3 January 2025 (8/10)

Location is perfect – close to everything and the neighbourhood seems very safe.
Quite new hotel and very clean

What could be improved: The beds are very small and not very comfortable. Also, we had to room towards the street and the windows are very thin so it becomes pretty noisy

  • Sushant from United States – 2 January 2025 (5/10)

Location is good, just off the Angel de la Independencia. Room was quite spacious and included a little kitchenette.

What could be improved: This place is so noisy; you will hear literally everything in the building, from the front door staff, to your neighbors alarm to the people upstairs walking around. The couch was filthy and the room itself was not very clean. The bathrooms have no ventilation so there is mold build up everywhere. There is also no heat in the rooms, so we had to ask for a tiny room heater. I would recommend staying elsewhere in Mexico City.

  • Jakob from Netherlands – 17 November 2024 (9/10)

Great place in a top location, literally <5m walking to the angel de la independencia. Good spot to explore the city from. The rooms were clean and modern.

What could be improved: There are no windows in the room and everything is a bit damp, which is why there is a dryer running pretty much constantly.

  • Annemarie from Mexico – 9 November 2024 (10/10)

    The location was perfect.

  • Rogelio from United States – 30 September 2024 (10/10)

Location was really convenient if you don’t want to set yourself on big buildings.

  • Samantha from Mexico – 4 August 2024 (9/10)

The place was just like the pictures on the website.
Customer service was nice but bed wasn’t that comfortable. That’s why I’m not giving the highest score.

What could be improved: Bed and there were only a couple of shower towels, we were two ladies and we needed more than just those two given. But the rest of the experience was nice.
